When I set this project up in October 2015, the number of refugees reaching the Greek islands from Turkey in 2015 alone reached 400,000. This number has been steadily increasing since then and now many are stuck in refugee camps indefinitely.

Our 2016 Christmas appeal set out with a target of £3,000 which would allow us to donate £1,000 to 3 charities who work tirelessly on the ground in refugee camps and on the Greek islands where refugees arrive by boats to help these people. They are incredible, and without them, many refugees wouldn’t have received the essential help they needed.

Your support in 2016 has helped us to raise £4,404.17 which is incredible!!! It’s nearly £1,500 more than we set out to raise this year and we couldn’t have done this without everyone’s amazing support. So many local businesses donated to our Christmas auction, Principal Security Consultants and Principal Chauffeurs sponsored the appeal and Marlborough Road Church did 4 collections for the appeal.

This will allow us to give £1, 468.06 to each of the 3 charities we set out to help this year:

    – Doctors of the World
    – Samos Volunteers
    – Kos Kindness

This enables them to purchase essential winter clothing, medical supplies, shelter and basic necessities such as toiletries for the refugees. Things that we take for granted are in short supply in refugee camps and this money will allow the volunteers working on the ground to provide some of these things to refugees to bring some normality to their lives.

Thank you to everyone who bid in our auction, donated an auction prize, donated to our JustGiving page or even just liked/shared our Facebook posts. You all contributed to the success of 2016 appeal and we can’t thank you enough.

We’re already so excited for 2017!
